Hey hey happniesslovers 🙂
My tip today is to: Go with the flow, but AGAINST the stream!
I would like to claim that to be successful you should prioritize doing the unexpected and go against all the negative advice you get.The more people telling you that your idea is crazy the stronger it means that you really should do it.
I know this is true. Not just a claim. How do I justify saying so? Let me explain.
If almost everybody knows how to do something and a lot of people are successful in doing it, whatever it might be, the probability that you will also have success doing it is low. For example, if you find a street full of restaurants you could think “it looks like opening a restaurant here could be a good idea” because obviously it works. But because everybody knows how to open a restaurant there (documentation on how to be a successful restaurant owner exists in all forms) and the competition is fierce the probability of success if you do it is really low.
If on the other hand you would open a very special restaurant in a place where nobody else have done it most people would probably advice you against it with arguments like “are you crazy?” meaning that they feel very insecure about such a venture. This means that you have next to no competition, and hence the probability of success is much higher.
A much smarter guy then me expressed it this way:
The more unexpected the success of [such] a venture, the smaller the number of competitors, and the more successful the entrepreneur who implements the idea.
-Nassim Nicholas Taleb (The Black Swan – 2007)
So in conclusion, go with the flow in the sense that listen to your self and believe in your ideas, but against the stream in the sense that you should take declarations of how your idea is bad and will fail as a positive sign and definitely do it anyway!
Happy holidays all <3 <3 <3 🙂
